All EDM Council articles, presentations, and working documents relating to the implementation of standards are posted here in reverse chronological order.
The EDM Council and the Object Management Group (OMG) have commenced a series of scheduled meetings with the industry
to collaboratively develop formal data standards for financial reform based on the EDM Councils Semantics Repository
work. Separate work-streams have been created in order to streamline the work of creating and registering these standards.
General Session: Providing an update on the overall status/progress/issues relating to the projects.
Technical Model Framework: Update the metamodel in line with latest ODM; decisions on disposition
of non ODM meta-terms; proposed extensions to (non ODM) meta-terms. Production of OWL deliverables from Semantics Repository.
Content Disposition and Prioritization: Decisions about the components of the standard and the priority of release.
Shared Semantics Disposition and modeling of common semantics in the "Global Terms" part of the Semantics
Repository; adoption of existing standards-based semantics where available; common ontology patterns and archetypes for these
terms. Common approach to ontology standards socialization (namespace sharing).
These separate sessions are open to all (members and non-members).

Legal Entity Identifier Recommendation
This is the recommendation (and accompanying requirements document) to the OFR created by a coalition of global financial institutions and trade associations on LEI. The recommendation is for ISO 17442 as the new standard, SWIFT as the registration authority and DTCC/Avox as the facilities manager. The coalition strongly recommends coordination with the Association of National Numbering Agencies on QA process and implementation.

A number of US regulatory agencies have released a concept paper on entity identification. The paper sets out the requirements and principles associated with the entity ID. This paper coincides with the policy release by the OFR and the draft rule on derivatives submitted by the SEC/CFTC.

Co-sponsored workshop by National Science Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts (July 21/22). Over fifty invited academic researchers, financial regulators and industry practitioners brought diverse perspectives and expertise to discuss the knowledge representation challenges for effective financial information management. This report describes the discussions flowing from the workshop and its immediate aftermath in greater detail.

The CFTC published a comprehensive new regulatory framework for swaps and security-based swaps. Comments are due 60 days after publication. Information about unique counterparty identifiers is on page 104 of the posted document.

OFR Policy Statement on Entity ID
This is the first official act of the Office of Financial Research (OFR). The Council has been working with Treasury, SEC, CFTC and others on implementation of entity ID. This statement makes the process associated with implementation official. Comments are due 60 days (from November 24). Please note this line from the release … "if a LEI is established to the satisfaction the Office by July 15, 2011, the Office, in consultation with the Chairperson of the Council, plans to issue a regulation mandating the use of such a standard for data reported to the Office."
