| Data Management Maturity Model |
|
The EDM Council, in partnership with Carnegie Mellon/SEI, is facilitating the creation of the financial industry’s only independent Data Management Maturity (DMM) Model. The DMM Model is a global, vendor neutral and industry developed tool that will provide a consistent roadmap for EDM as well as an auditable benchmark against industry best practice. The model will define the components of data management at the specific business-process level so that financial organizations can assess themselves against documented best practices and upgrade their management of essential data resources. This framework will then be mapped to an audit/measurement process based on the SEI’s CMMI framework to ensure consistent and rigorous assessment capabilities.
The EDM Council has recently launched the Content Model phase of development for the Data Management Maturity (DMM). This phase involves the collaboration of member organizations to identify and prioritize the key elements of a sound EDM process.
Further stages will include the Process Model phase of mapping of the Content Model to the Carnegie Mellon/SEI process methodology to produce the finalized auditable Data Management Maturity Model.

The EDM Council and Headstrong conducted a global data management benchmarking survey designed to collect comparable metrics on how financial institutions are implementing their data management programs. The survey consists of a combination of online survey and in-depth one-on-one interviews among a cross section of the financial industry selected by segment, geography and size. A detailed online survey was conducted with 65 firms participating followed by personal interviews with 30 firms. EDM Council worked with Headstrong and element22 for survey design, administration and data analysis.
